Initiatives: We are currently focusing our coaching support, professional development, collaboration, and implementation practice on Si Swun Math and the Read-Think-Apply’s comprehension instruction framework.

Response to Intervention: The Response to Intervention program addresses Reading and English Language Development needs of students who are Far Below grade level.
  • The Interventions Team aligns schedules, strategies, and standards with homeroom teacher to support continuity. Student progress is systematically monitored, data is analyzed, and adjustments are made for regrouping as appropriate.
  • Students can be referred to the Student Success Team where staff and family partners share information, concerns, and develop strategies and action plans to address academic, behavioral, or social/emotional concerns.
  • The Resource Program team (part time Resource Program Specialist, Speech Therapist, and Educational Psychologist), provide service to students with IEPs, or can assess eligible students.
Monitoring Student Progress: We use standards-based benchmark assessments for ELA (by Action Learning Systems), Math (by Si Swun), and ELD (curriculum-embedded). We also use Wireless Generation’s mCLASS 3D reading inventory as well as the McLeod Assessment of Reading Comprehension for additional information. Our internal data management process enables timely data reports and analysis for teachers’ use to guide instruction.

After School Scholars: The After School Scholars (EnCAS) program provides standards-based academic enrichment that is strongly aligned and integrated with the Day program:
  • EnCAS Instructors use the same ELA standards map as the Day program
  • The literacy coach works with both Day and EnCAS staff for professional development and data analysis
  • EnCAS staff also works with students during the Day program academic intervention
  • EnCAS math instruction focuses on mastery of math facts, aligned to Si Swun pacing guide
  • EnCAS Coordinator meets weekly with principal and is integrated into Day program structure
  • EnCAS staff attends selected Day program professional development
